Port Hope's Beaches: A Quick Guide

Port Hope has three public beach spots along Lake Ontario, each a short walk (10-15 minutes) from Port Hope Suites.

East Beach (Mill Street South & Madison Street) — sandy swimming bottom, playground, washrooms nearby at the Marina (May–Oct), and access to the Waterfront Trail.

West Beach (Marsh Street) — a more natural mix of sand and rock, with a playground and portable washroom. Part of the site is still a construction zone under the Port Hope Area Initiative remediation project, though most of the beach remains open.

Caldwell Street Beach — just east of East Beach, another sandy swim spot with trail access.

Honorable mention: Cobourg Beach — about a 10-15 minute drive east, this Blue Flag beach is worth the trip if guests want a bigger, fuller-service beach day: soft sand, a boardwalk, splash pad, and lifeguards in season. It draws larger crowds than Port Hope's beaches, especially on summer weekends.

Season & hours: Open daily, 7 a.m.–11 p.m., first Monday in May through first Monday in October.

Rules: No lifeguard on duty (swim at your own risk), no littering, and dogs must be leashed. Water quality is tested weekly by the HKPR Health Unit.
